Who We Are
We are the Libyan Red Crescent Society, an independent national humanitarian organization dedicated to providing support and assistance to those in need across Libya without discrimination. Guided by the seven Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, we respond to emergencies, deliver disaster relief, promote first aid and health awareness, and foster a culture of solidarity and volunteerism in Libyan society. Our team of committed staff and volunteers works nationwide to protect human dignity and provide lifesaving assistance.
History of the Libyan Red Crescent
The Libyan Red Crescent was established in 1957 as part of the international humanitarian network. It was officially recognized by the International Committee of the Red Cross in 1959, enabling it to join the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Since its founding, the LRCS has played a pivotal role in disaster response within Libya and has supported refugees and internally displaced persons, especially during periods of conflict and humanitarian crises. The LRCS has grown into an effective organization relying on the efforts of thousands of volunteers across the country.
Stages of Development
From its inception, the Society established three branches in Libya's major cities: Benghazi, Tripoli, and Sabha. Expansion continued to cover most regions and cities in the country, reaching 38 branches to date.
